When determining pharmaceutical dosage, there are a number of parameters that influence the effects of the medicine. Examples of such parameters include gender, age, weight, other pharmaceuticals, other diseases or conditions, renal function and smoking.
The dosage may need to be adjusted for patients with extensive limb deficiencies. Depending on the nature of the medication that is to be taken, the care provider may be able to prescribe a lower dose initially and then gradually increase the dose until the desired effect is achieved. In other situations an immediate effect may be required, in which case the care provider will prescribe a standard dose that can be reduced later if the side effects become too great.
It is important that you discuss with your care provider about how your medication makes you feel, so that it can be adjusted to achieve the best possible effect.
